Operation Fly Inc. is a student-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was originally formed to serve the inner-city population within Washington DC and its surrounding metropolitan area.
Why We Started Operation Fly: Our Mission
Unfortunately, people today do not have the altruism nor spirit of previous generations to want to impact the community at-large. Our organization, founded in 2007, may just in fact change that. Altruism and a sense of sympathy are obvious characteristics of future leaders and we hope to foster those characteristics in order to send them out in to the world as the leaders of our generation. Students in this generation tend to have a saying, “Once I get over this bar, I can make a difference in the world”. Our challenge to this generation can be summed up in one question: “Why wait?” Why wait, when we can make a difference NOW.
What better way is there to challenge this ideology than by combating the very problem that hinders many of our citizens from achieving their fullest potential? Homelessness, poverty, and financial burdens.
We at Operation Fly Inc. hope to wrong this injustice and to bring out an influential impact on the general welfare of society. We will serve to combat poverty, homelessness, and financial burdens of aspiring students. By doing so, we can not only empower this generation, but we can also make an enormous impact on the very society that we live in.
Operation Fly Inc. runs numerous programs such as the Eat and Greet, Sheets for Streets, and Packs for Backs program to directly aid the underprivileged. We also hold chapter monthly fundraisers and other marketing events to generate revenue and raise awareness, In the past, we have also devoted our budget toward an inner-city scholarship, community tutoring and leadership conference program to enpower and equip the next generation of leaders.
We must emphasize the fact that we are a STUDENT-LED organization, with the supervision of numerous community organizations and dedicated community leaders. This essentially means that every single aspect of this organization is run by students.
